Kia EV2 Unveiling on January 9: New Electric Crossover Incoming

Kia is preparing to introduce a brand-new electric crossover, the EV2, and the global debut is set for January 9 at the 2026 Brussels Motor Show. This model has been in the spotlight since Kia showcased its EV2 Concept earlier, and now the production version is ready to step into the market as the brand’s most affordable electric offering in international markets. Kia has also trademarked the EV2 name in India, which hints that the car could eventually make its way here as well.

Design Inspired by the Concept

Kia’s teaser images reveal that the production-ready EV2 stays close to the design philosophy of the original concept. The front of the car stands out with vertically stacked LED headlamps paired with a bold skid plate and chunky lower cladding. These elements give the EV2 a rugged, purposeful look despite its compact size.

The side profile maintains the concept’s boxy silhouette, and the rising window line adds a bit of character to the crossover’s shape. While the teasers don’t show everything, the EV2 appears to carry a clean and upright stance typical of practical daily-use EVs.

The rear design is easier to decode. The EV2 features low-positioned LED tail-lamps, somewhat similar to the pattern seen on the Kia Syros. A roof spoiler, angled rear glass, and thick rear cladding complete the look, giving the EV2 a sporty yet functional presence.

Expected Battery Packs and Range

Kia hasn’t announced the EV2’s technical details yet, but it is expected to share its foundation with the Hyundai Inster, which uses the 400V E-GMP skateboard platform. If Kia follows the same formula, the EV2 will likely get 42kWh and 49kWh battery pack options, offering buyers a choice between affordability and extended range.

The EV2 is set to be a front-wheel-drive model with a single motor positioned at the front. While power output figures are still under wraps, early expectations suggest the electric crossover could deliver a range of around 350–400 km, making it suitable for both city commutes and longer weekend drives.

Positioned as Kia’s New Entry-Level EV

With its compact footprint, practical cabin-focused design, and likely competitive pricing, the EV2 is expected to sit at the bottom of Kia’s global EV lineup. It aims to attract first-time EV buyers who want a stylish yet budget-friendly electric vehicle without compromising on range or everyday usability.

Final Thoughts

The upcoming Kia EV2 is shaping up to be an important addition to the growing electric crossover segment. Its concept-inspired design, expected practical battery options, and approachable positioning suggest it will appeal to value-conscious buyers in global markets. If Kia decides to bring it to India, the EV2 could become one of the most accessible electric models from the brand—making January 9 a date worth noting for EV enthusiasts.
