India’s subcompact SUV space is gearing up for a huge shift over the next two years. Many of the popular models in the under-4-metre category are preparing for major upgrades, while some are getting complete new-generation versions. Brands like Maruti Suzuki, Tata, Mahindra and Kia are ready with fresh designs, new features and improved powertrain options. Here’s a simple breakdown of what’s coming soon.

Tata Punch Facelift

Tata is preparing to refresh the Punch, and the new model will lean closer to the Punch EV in terms of styling. Expect a more modern face with a reshaped grille, updated bumper design and new headlamp–DRL setup. The side profile is unlikely to change much, but the rear will get small tweaks to keep it visually fresh.

Inside the cabin, Tata is expected to step things up with a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a new steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster, and additional conveniences such as a 360-degree camera and wireless charging. The familiar 1.2-litre petrol and petrol-CNG engines will continue to power the SUV.

Maruti Brezza Facelift

The 2026 Brezza has already been spotted testing, and one interesting detail is the use of an underbody CNG tank. This approach helps retain the full boot space, which will be a big advantage for CNG buyers.

On the tech front, Maruti may finally introduce an ADAS package in the Brezza, along with a few cabin upgrades. The trusted 1.5-litre petrol engine and the same gearbox choices are expected to remain unchanged.

Maruti Fronx Facelift

The Fronx will also get a major update in 2026. One of the headline additions could be an ADAS suite, making it more feature-loaded than before. The big news, however, is the possibility of Maruti debuting its all-new strong hybrid powertrain with the updated Fronx. Suzuki is working on a new 48V Super Ene-Charge (SEC) hybrid system that promises better efficiency without adding much weight or cost.

New-Generation Kia Sonet

Kia is quietly working on the next version of the Sonet, although details are still limited. The new model is expected to bring a more premium interior and sharper styling while retaining its current engine options. Kia’s focus this time is likely to be on cabin quality and a more upmarket feel.

New-Generation Tata Nexon

Tata is preparing for a major step forward with the next-gen Nexon, internally known as the Garud project. The upcoming model will continue to use a modified version of the current platform but will adopt an entirely new design language. Some styling cues may be borrowed from the Curvv, giving the Nexon a more futuristic look.

A significant upgrade could come in the form of an ADAS suite and more advanced cabin features. The 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine will remain, while the diesel variant may be phased out due to the incoming BS7 norms.

New-Generation Mahindra XUV3XO

Mahindra’s next-gen XUV 3XO will take inspiration from the Vision X concept showcased in 2025. The SUV is expected to shift to the new NU_IQ platform, which supports multiple powertrain types, including hybrids. This opens the door for a possible hybrid variant in the future.

The current 1.2-litre turbo petrol, 1.2-litre direct-injection turbo petrol, and 1.5-litre diesel engines are likely to continue, offering a wide range of choices to buyers.

Final Thoughts

The subcompact SUV category is heading into its busiest upgrade cycle yet. Facelifts for the Punch, Brezza and Fronx, along with all-new generations of the Sonet, Nexon and XUV3XO, will make this segment more competitive than ever. With better design, smarter tech and a shift toward hybrid options, these upcoming models are set to redefine what buyers can expect from a compact SUV in India.
